The first part of the talk will present the main issues introduced by delay tolerant and/or opportunistic networking, as well as several research works addressing these issues. The second part of this talk will introduce the concept of location-aware services, applications and middleware platforms. It will also give an overview of an OSGi-based middleware platform dedicated to the provision of location-aware services in opportunistic networks.
h30: Yann Gripay (LIRIS), Querying data streams from distributed sensors in OSGi: application to “intelligent” buildings (with demo). Querying data, streams and other functionality from distributed services in a declarative way is recognized as a major issue for dynamic distributed applications. Within the SoCQ project, we are building a query processor based on OSGi that addresses this issue: SoCQ queries are a mix of standard relational operators, stream operators (windows) and service operators (service discovery, method invocations, stream subscriptions) expressed in a SQL-like language. In this presentation, we give an overview of the SoCQ data model and we detail the technical features of the query processor, applied to a real-time exploitation of data streams from distributed sensors in “intelligent” buildings. We also discuss how to integrate our query processor with existing OSGi components.
H00: Repas dans le quartier 13H30: Andre Bottaro (Orange Labs) et Fred Rivard (I2ST), OSGi ME, an OSGi Profile for Embedded Devices (with demo) New applications in the home - energy efficiency, digital home - emphasize the need for ICT players to make their software architecture flexible enough to accelerate time to market of new services. OSGi technology has appealing advantages that only partly fullfill technical requirements. OSGi ME, an OSGi Profile for Embedded Devices, goes through necessary enhancements to adapt the deployments of modules to cost effective markets: robustness of software, tiny footprint, restricted download policies. The speakers give technical hints to implement OSGi ME features like Java ME CLDC compatibility, adapted code sharing and isolation mechanisms, stale reference detection. Attendees will foresee embedded applications delivered with more guarantees on embedded devices where costs do matter.
H30: Francois Fornaciari (Zenika), Building complex and modular RIAs with OSGi and Flex (with demo). This session will present the main design patterns for building Rich Internet Applications using both OSGi and Flex. After a brief introduction to Flex, a framework for developing rich and complex interfaces, we will see how the client-side can interact seamlessly with an OSGi backend. Then we will study the different ways of handling communication through both OSGi service calls and event-based messages. In a second part, we will see how a Flex application can be split into small modules which can be easily loaded and unloaded at runtime by leveraging the OSGi deployment layer.
